HIES introduces plant-based lubricant that reduces air compressor lifecycle CO(2) emissions by 40%

TOKYO, Mar 24, 2026 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems Co., Ltd. (hereinafter HIES, part of Hitachi, Ltd. Connective Industries (CI) Sector) has launched “GREEN SCREW OIL”, a plantbased lubricant for oil-flooded screw air compressors. Because the plant-derived raw materials absorb CO₂ during growth, the new lubricant cuts manufacturing-stage CO₂ emissions by approximately 90%. Even including emissions at disposal, its CO2 emissions across the entire lifecycle can be reduced by approximately 40%(estimated value) compared to conventional synthetic oils.Air compressors are widely used manufacturing and social infrastructure fields. HIES' air compressors form a significant part of the installed base for “HMAXTM(*1) Industry”, a digital service that embodies Lumada 3.0(*2), offering predictive diagnostics powered by machine learning and operational/maintenance support through generative AI. Delivered via “FitLiveTM(*3)”. These solutions support efficient and sustainable operations. Aligned with Hitachi’s sustainability strategy “PLEDGES(*4)”, which is based on the management plan “Inspire 2027,” and promotes decarbonization under the P: Planet pledge, “GREEN SCREW OIL” further enhances the environmental value of digitalized assets and supports the creation of more sustainable industrial sites.Product OverviewOil-flooded screw air compressors require lubricants to prevent component wear and provide cooling, as a pair of screw rotors rotate at high speeds to compress air. Conventional lubricants are derived from crude oil, and CO2 is emitted during their manufacturing process. “GREEN SCREW OIL” uses plants as raw materials that absorb CO2 through photosynthesis. This means that during manufacturing, CO2 emissions are reduced by 90%. Even when considering the disposal stage, total emissions are reduced by 40%. Its performance is equivalent to conventional synthetic oils, and it can be used with a two-year replacement cycle.Going forward, we also plan to expand this initiative to Hitachi Global Air Power's oil-flooded screw air compressors, which are under Sullair brand within Hitachi Group, and HIES’ oil-free air compressors. Hitachi Group air compressors hold a significant global market share. We estimate that replacing all lubricant used in the Group's air compressors with plant-based alternatives could reduce CO2 emissions by over 2,000 tons annually.Hitachi’s Connective Industries (CI) Sector, to which HIES belongs, focuses on “Integrated Industry Automation”, which aims to expand “HMAX Industry” into growth industries horizontally. HMAX Industry provides next-generation solutions for the industrial field that combines data from an abundant installed base of products (digitalized assets), domain knowledge, and advanced AI. As part of the CI Sector, HIES aims to drive innovation for frontline workers through the delivery of “HMAX Industry” that embodies Lumada 3.0.(*1) Hitachi Group's next-generation solutions leveraging AI to innovate social infrastructure, deployed globally and across industries(*2) Lumada 3.0: An evolution of Lumada, leveraging AI enhanced with Hitachi's domain knowledge. Fujitsu and Umios conduct joint pilot project for electronic traceability system to visualize seafood distribution

Kawasaki and Tokyo, Japan, Mar 24, 2026 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Fujitsu Limited and Umios Corporation today announced the successful completion of a joint pilot project for an electronic traceability system to trace and visualize seafood distribution information. This initiative, conducted on February 1, 2026, aims to support the countering of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, which is increasingly important for securing sustainable marine resources. The experiment focused on bluefin tuna farmed by the Umios Group in Wakayama Prefecture, establishing a mechanism for consumers to check distribution information from the farm to retail stores via smartphone. The project successfully validated the system's effectiveness for wider implementation in society. Both companies aim to commence operation of this system by fiscal year 2027 for some fish species handled by the Umios Group. In recent years, while demand for seafood has increased globally due to population growth and rising health consciousness, natural marine resources are declining, and securing sustainable marine resources has become an urgent issue. Countermeasures against IUU fishing are particularly critical, and countries worldwide are tightening marine resource management and fishing regulations. A common challenge for the fisheries industry is establishing mechanisms to clearly demonstrate and prove non-involvement with IUU fishing throughout the entire process, from procurement to distribution. The Umios Group has positioned "Action for preserving biodiversity and ecosystem" as one of its material issues in the sustainability strategy of its medium-term management plan, "For the ocean, for life 2027," and is promoting the establishment of an electronic traceability system that can quickly and reliably prove that the seafood it handles is unrelated to IUU fishing.Overview of the Pilot ProjectDate: February 1, 2026 (Saturday)Locations: Umios Marine Corporation Kushimoto Office (Wakayama Prefecture, aquaculture farm), Okuwa Co., Ltd. Izumi-Oda Store (Osaka Prefecture, retail store)Target Seafood: Bluefin tuna farmed at Umios Marine Corporation Kushimoto OfficeDetails: A pilot project for an electronic traceability system enabling consumers who purchased the target bluefin tuna at Okuwa Co., Ltd. Izumi-Oda Store to check the production history (from farming and landing to processing and sales) using smartphones, along with a consumer awareness survey.System Used: A system developed as a prototype by Fujitsu, which records and visualizes the entire production history. It was designed utilizing a traceability solution from Fujitsu Sustainability Value Accelerator[1] offered through Fujitsu's business model Uvance, which addresses societal challenges. Results: The experiment demonstrated that the system can reliably record and visualize production history information for the target bluefin tuna. Furthermore, in the consumer awareness survey (35 valid responses), approximately 91% responded that they "would consider or refer to it when purchasing," approximately 77% said it "leads to a sense of security and trust," and approximately 77% also stated that they "would be willing to pay an additional price for products with traceability information." This indicates that electronic traceability can also function as added value for products.Moving forward, both companies will leverage the insights gained from this pilot to expand the target fish species, enhance the system, and extend its application across the entire supply chain. This will accelerate the social implementation of transparency in seafood distribution and IUU fishing countermeasures.Fujitsu will drive progress toward both enhancing corporate value based on trust and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources by realizing cross-company and cross-industry value chain traceability through Uvance.(1) Fujitsu Sustainability Value Accelerator: A suite of services from Fujitsu that collects verifiable traceability data across companies and industries, enhances value chain transparency, and supports overall optimization and the creation of new business models.About FujitsuFujitsu’s purpose is to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation. Fujitsu-developed traffic simulation system utilized in Maebashi City’s public transportation planning JCN Newswire

Fujitsu-developed traffic simulation system utilized in Maebashi City’s public transportation planning

KAWASAKI, Japan, Mar 23, 2026 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Fujitsu Limited today announced that its comprehensive traffic simulation system, developed under contract for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)-led regional transportation DX promotion project COMmmmONS, has been adopted for the Maebashi City Regional Public Transportation Plan, published by the local government on March 23, 2026. Analysis carried out by the system is included in the plan as scientific evidence supporting the policy to increase bus routes, one of the plan's key measures.Across municipalities nationwide, addressing the needs of transportation-disadvantaged residents and responding to carbon neutrality in the transportation sector have become urgent challenges, driving the need to advance and modernize public transportation systems. In Maebashi City, challenges such as demographic changes, increasingly diverse mobility needs, and a shortage of bus drivers have emerged. As the city examined optimal bus route reorganization measures under the Maebashi City Regional Public Transportation Plan, it required robust and credible scientific evidence to substantiate the effectiveness of these measures.Fujitsu was selected for the COMmmmONS project in April 2025 and developed a system capable of simulating both fixed-route and demand-responsive transportation, a first for Japan. The utility of the simulation results generated by this system was subsequently recognized, leading to its adoption in Maebashi City's regional public transportation plan. The comprehensive traffic simulation system leverages Fujitsu's social digital twin technology to support the pre-verification of measures by simulating human and social behavior. It utilizes generally available statistical data on resident attributes, movement, and destinations, as well as ridership data obtainable from MaaS apps.1. Evaluation of policy effects through high-precision simulationThe system utilizes unique Fujitsu technologies: artificial population technology, which generates resident data reflecting regional characteristics based on over 10 statistical anonymized datasets including the National Census; a behavioral selection model that uses AI to learn real-world travel data (i.e., travel times, costs for potential routes, residents' ages, car ownership status, etc.) and reproduce the travel mode selection characteristics of local residents; and multi-agent simulation technology, capable of simulating multiple transportation modes with different characteristics. This enables the estimation of detailed resident travel demand and generates simulation results that closely reflect real-world travel conditions, even when actual travel data is insufficient, thereby accurately evaluating the expected effects of policies.2. Streamlining plan formulation and accelerating consensus buildingThe system handles travel demand forecasting and modal split estimation as well as policy consideration and visualization of simulation results. Utilizing this system in regional transportation plan formulation can streamline the process, reducing the time required for consensus building with stakeholders, particularly transportation operators, by approximately 25%. The process previously could take between one and two years when outsourced to consulting firms.3. Support for optimal plan formulation with multi-faceted evaluation indicatorsThe system provides a wide range of evaluation indicators, including usage status and service levels for each transportation mode, ride-sharing rates for demand-responsive transport, and overall project costs for measures. This enables a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of transportation policies on users, operators, and the entire region, supporting the formulation of optimal plans to resolve "transportation deserts" where securing public transportation is difficult, and to realize sustainable regional transportation.Fujitsu plans to commercialize this system as a service by fiscal year 2026, developing it into a standard tool applicable across Japan. It will also promote collaboration with partners engaged in optimizing regional transportation, including local governments, consulting firms, and transportation operators. Through these efforts, Fujitsu aims to support the formulation of regional public transportation plans for local governments across Japan.Fujitsu will continue to train the system using mobility data and other sources to establish it as an AI engine capable of accurately replicating the diverse behaviors of local residents so that it can contribute to urban development and community planning nationwide.Under Uvance, Fujitsu's business model to address societal challenges, it will advance sustainable cities where everyone can live comfortably by enhancing regional transportation through data and AI.About COMmmmONSIn the field of regional transportation, while the adoption of digital technologies such as MaaS and ride-hailing apps is progressing, the siloed development of business models and systems has resulted in a lack of interoperability between services and data. As improving the quality and productivity of transportation services to resolve transportation deserts becomes an urgent issue, a new approach is needed to systematically promote regional transportation DX centered on collaboration and cooperation. The regional transportation DX promotion project "COMmmmONS (Code for Mobility Common Society)" is a new initiative that aims to create and standardize best practices for problem-solving using digital technology across four pillars: services, data, management, and business processes. By horizontally deploying these practices, it seeks to create technological assets that become common property for society.About FujitsuFujitsu's purpose is to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation. Results from Real-World, Long-Term Treatment Persistence with LEQEMBI(R) (lecanemab-irmb) in the United States Presented at AD/PD(TM) 2026

TOKYO and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Mar 23, 2026 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Eisai Co., Ltd. and Biogen Inc. announced today that new real‑world findings from an analysis of long‑term treatment persistence and baseline characteristics among people receiving intravenous (IV) lecanemab (generic name, brand name LEQEMBI®), an anti‑amyloid‑β (Aβ) protofibril antibody, showed that most patients continue with ongoing lecanemab therapy after the initial 18 months of treatment. The analysis was presented at the 20th International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases and Related Neurological Disorders (AD/PD™ 2026) in Copenhagen, Denmark, and online. In real‑world clinical practice, patients with chronic diseases who stay on their treatments longer tend to experience better clinical outcomes and higher satisfaction.1,2 Ninety-four percent of patients who completed 18 months of lecanemab treatment in the Phase III Clarity AD chose to continue maintenance treatment by enrolling in the subsequent open-label, long-term extension (OLE) study. In the OLE of Clarity AD study, patients continue to benefit from four years of lecanemab treatment compared with the natural course of Alzheimer’s disease (Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative: ADNI*).Long-Term Persistence and Patient Characteristics for Lecanemab in Real-World Use in the United States (Presentation: March 20, 17:05 CET)This analysis is the first time real-world lecanemab data on treatment persistence beyond 18 months has been reported. This study was a retrospective observational analysis using the PurpleLab® CLEAR Claims database, a comprehensive dataset based on medical insurance claims across the United States and was conducted to evaluate the long‑term treatment persistence of lecanemab in real‑world clinical practice.Patient background and dosing The analysis population consisted of 10,763 individuals who met the requirement for continuous healthcare encounters, out of the 13,388 individuals recorded in the database who received at least one intravenous treatment with lecanemab between January 6, 2023 and November 30, 2025. At baseline, the mean age was 73.8 years and 56.5% were female. The most common comorbidities were dyslipidemia (42.2%) and hypertension (36.9%). The mean follow-up duration was 350.9 days. The average number of administrations was 1.7 per month, and the mean dosing interval was 16.4 days (median 14 days), which was generally consistent with the recommended every two weeks dosing.Long-Term persistence results The time-dependent proportion of patients who remained on lecanemab treatment was evaluated, using the Kaplan–Meier method in a subgroup of 371 patients who initiated treatment in 2023 and had 20 months of continuous follow-up, thereby enabling assessment of long-term treatment persistence beyond 18 months. As a result, 78.4% of individuals continued lecanemab treatment at 18 months, 71.7% at 20 months, and 67.3% at 24 months. Of the 78.4% of patients who remained on lecanemab at 18 months, the majority of them continued treatment during the maintenance period beyond 18 months, confirming a high rate of treatment persistence with lecanemab in real-world clinical practice. The patient characteristics and dosing patterns observed in this claims-based analysis were generally similar to those reported in the Clarity AD. Furthermore, the relatively high treatment adherence observed among individuals suggests that potential delays due to MRI monitoring requirements, adverse events, and other factors did not substantially affect lecanemab dosing.Eisai serves as the lead for lecanemab’s development and regulatory submissions globally with Eisai and Biogen co-commercializing and co-promoting the product and Eisai having final decision-making authority.* ADNI is a clinical research project launched in 2005 to develop methods to predict the onset and progression of AD and to confirm the effectiveness of treatments. The project involves a multi-year longitudinal observation targeting healthy elderly individuals as well as patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early stages of AD.About lecanemab (generic name, brand name: LEQEMBI)Lecanemab is the result of a strategic research alliance between Eisai and BioArctic. It is a humanized immunoglobulin gamma (IgG1) monoclonal antibody directed against aggregated soluble (protofibril) and insoluble forms of amyloid-beta (Aβ).Lecanemab has been approved in 53 countries and regions including Japan, the United States, China, Europe, South Korea, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia, and is under regulatory review in 6 countries. Following the initial phase with treatment every two weeks for 18 months, intravenous (IV) maintenance dosing with treatment every four weeks was approved in 7 countries including the U.S., China, the UK, and others, and applications have been filed in 10 countries and regions. The U.S. FDA approved Eisai’s Biologics License Application (BLA) for subcutaneous maintenance dosing with LEQEMBI IQLIK in August 2025. A Supplemental Biologics License Application (sBLA) for initiation treatment was accepted in January 2026. The sBLA has been granted Priority Review, with a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) action date of May 24, 2026. In November 2025, an application for a subcutaneous injectable formulation in Japan was submitted. In January 2026, the Biologics License Application (BLA) for the subcutaneous formulation was accepted in China. In December 2025, Lecanemab (IV) has been included in the “Commercial Insurance Innovative Drug List”, recently introduced by the National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) of China. In the global Phase 3 placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-group, randomized Clarity AD core study, the mean change from baseline between the lecanemab treated group and the placebo group after 18 months was -0.45 (P=0.00005) on the primary endpoint of CDR-SB global cognitive and functional scale. To provide context, a change from 0.5 to 1 on the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) score domains of Memory, Community Affairs and Home/Hobbies reflects a shift from mild impairment to loss of independence. This can affect a person’s ability to be left alone safely, recall recent events, participate in daily activities, manage household tasks, and engage in hobbies and intellectual interests.3,4Over three years of treatment, including both the core study and the OLE, data showed lecanemab demonstrated a reduction in cognitive decline—measured by CDR-SB—of 1.01 points compared to the expected decline observed in the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) cohort. This benefit grew more pronounced after four years, with a reduction of 1.75 points. Similarly, when benchmarked against the expected decline in the BioFINDER** cohort, lecanemab showed a reduction of 1.40 points at three years and an even greater reduction of 2.17 points at the four years mark.Since July 2020 the Phase 3 clinical study (AHEAD 3-45) for individuals with preclinical AD, meaning they are clinically normal and have intermediate or elevated levels of amyloid in their brains, is ongoing. AHEAD 3-45 is conducted as a public-private partnership between the Alzheimer's Clinical Trial Consortium that provides the infrastructure for academic clinical trials in AD and related dementias in the U.S, funded by the National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health, Eisai and Biogen. Since January 2022, the Tau NexGen clinical study for Dominantly Inherited AD (DIAD), that is conducted by Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network Trials Unit (DIAN-TU), led by Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, is ongoing and includes lecanemab as the backbone anti-amyloid therapy.** BioFINDER subjects are similar to Study 301 and ADNI subjects, except all BioFINDER subjects are in the MCI stage and no mild AD subjects are included, and their baseline CDR-SB is lower. BioFINDER is a largescale, long-term prospective study led by Lund University in Sweden, aiming to establish early. diagnosis and elucidate pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases. In addition to AD, the study also focuses on conditions including Parkinson's Disease. Individuals participating in the study undergo regular clinical assessments, cognitive function tests, brain imaging (MRI, Aβ PET, Tau PET), and collection of biomarkers from blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).About ProtofibrilsProtofibrils are believed to contribute to the brain injury that occurs with AD and are considered to be the most toxic form of soluble Aβ, having a primary role in the cognitive decline associated with this progressive, debilitating condition.3 Protofibrils cause injury to neurons in the brain, which in turn, can negatively impact cognitive function via multiple mechanisms, not only increasing the development of insoluble Aβ plaques but also increasing direct damage to brain cell membranes and the connections that transmit signals between nerve cells or nerve cells and other cells. It is believed the reduction of protofibrils may prevent the progression of AD by reducing damage to neurons in the brain and cognitive dysfunction.4About the Collaboration between Eisai and Biogen for ADEisai and Biogen have been collaborating on the joint development and commercialization of AD treatments since 2014. Eisai serves as the lead of lecanemab development and regulatory submissions globally with both companies co-commercializing and co-promoting the product and Eisai having final decision-making authority.About the Collaboration between Eisai and BioArctic for ADSince 2005, Eisai and BioArctic have had a long-term collaboration regarding the development and commercialization of AD treatments. Eisai obtained the global rights to study, develop, manufacture and market lecanemab for the treatment of AD pursuant to an agreement with BioArctic in December 2007. The development and commercialization agreement on the antibody lecanemab back-up was signed in May 2015.About Eisai Co., Ltd.Eisai's Corporate Concept is "to give first thought to patients and people in the daily living domain, and to increase the benefits that health care provides." MHI Thermal Systems Expands Lineup of Air-to-Water Heat Pumps for the European Market JCN Newswire

MHI Thermal Systems Expands Lineup of Air-to-Water Heat Pumps for the European Market

Hydrolution EZY Series (Left: 6 kW, 7.1 kW Right: 10 kW, 14 kW)TOKYO, Mar 19, 2026 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, Ltd. (MHI Thermal Systems), a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has expanded its lineup in the "Hydrolution EZY" series of air-to-water (ATW) heat pumps for the European market that utilize R290 natural refrigerant. New models with capacities of 10kW and 14kW have been added to the two existing 6kW and 7.1kW models to meet a wide range of needs in the region. MHI Thermal Systems plans to release the new models successively in European markets starting this spring.ATW heat pumps extract heat from the air to supply cold and hot water for hot water supply, heating, and cooling. The monobloc type models added to the lineup have a water heat exchanger built into the outdoor unit, so only water lines need to be fitted, allowing for easier installation than split-type ATWs, which require refrigerant pipe connections. In addition, R290 refrigerant has an extremely low global warming potential of 0.02,(Note) and has been attracting attention, mainly in the increasingly tight regulatory environment of Europe, for its high energy efficiency and low environmental impact. The newly added 10kW and 14kW models, like the 6kW and 7.1kW models, have the basic features of high temperature hot water supply, high efficiency, low noise, and safety. Modifications to components to be compatible with the new refrigerant, and the adoption of a new in-house developed compressor, allow the units to maintain a high flow temperature of 75℃ under a wide range of conditions, from an outside temperature of minus 25℃ to plus 43℃. The 10kW and 14kW models are also equipped with separate electronic expansion valves for heating and cooling, allowing for optimal control and high efficiency over a wide range. For low noise operation, the units have a double vibration isolation structure, a triple sound-absorbing structure, and a large fan, and can be set to quiet mode to further reduce operating noise, thereby providing flexibility to comply with noise regulations in densely populated residential areas. Additionally, the units have been designed with safety in mind, and are equipped with a refrigerant leak detection sensor. The design concept is the same as that for the 6kW and 7.1kW models. The units are black to blend seamlessly with European residences, and are fitted with a fan guard accented with a silver vertical stripe. The structure makes it difficult to see the fan from an angle, completing an exterior design that is powerful and sophisticated, while also blending into the background in a variety of installation environments. The only difference in appearance from the 6kW and 7.1kW models is the height, creating a sense of cohesion even when multiple units are installed. In terms of power supply specifications, the 10kW and 14kW models offer a single-phase 230V power supply or a newly added three-phase 400V power supply, making them suitable for a wider variety of installation environments and power supply requirements. Control specifications, as with the 6kW and 7.1kW models, allow for up to eight outdoor units to be connected and controlled with a single indoor control unit, allowing for use in buildings of various sizes. In October 2021, MHI Group announced its MISSION NET ZERO declaration to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the corporate group and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, including cutting emissions from its own plants and other production-related facilities, as well as reducing CO2 emissions at customer facilities that use MHI Group products. The Hydrolution EZY series, by supporting the transition from boiler combustion using fossil fuels that emit high concentrations of CO2 to ATW using electricity, can contribute significantly to the promotion of carbon neutrality in European countries, and help MHI Group achieve its environmental goals.Going forward, MHI Thermal Systems will continue to develop environmentally friendly technologies, and by taking advantage of synergies that leverage the company's broad business foundation in the heating and cooling sector, provide optimal thermal solutions, and contribute to carbon neutrality in countries around the world.(Note) Global Warming Potential (GWP) is a coefficient expressing the greenhouse effect of a gas relative to carbon dioxide (CO2), which has a fixed GWP of 1.0. The lower the value, the lower the greenhouse effect and the better for the environment. The GWP value of "0.02" is based on the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report.About MHI GroupMitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group is one of the world’s leading industrial groups, spanning energy, smart infrastructure, industrial machinery, aerospace and defense. NEC Completes Design of Equipment for Technology Demonstration Satellite Aimed at Creating Japan’s First Optical Communication Satellite Constellation

TOKYO, Mar 19, 2026 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) will develop a small technology demonstration satellite to conduct in-orbit verification of key technologies essential for realizing future optical communication satellite constellations, including optical communications, high-speed network routing design, and high-capacity millimeter-wave band communications. The design of the satellite-mounted equipment (payload) for this demonstration has now been completed. Moving forward, the payload will be manufactured and integrated into the satellite bus, the common functional component of the satellite, which is scheduled for launch into Earth’s orbit in fiscal year 2027.Rendering of a Small Technology Demonstration SatelliteIn satellite constellations where numerous satellites collaborate and function together, optical communication is increasingly favored over conventional radio for satellite-to-satellite communications. This shift aims to avoid communication interference and enable high-capacity data transmission. However, in order to equip a large number of small satellites with optical communication devices, it is necessary to shorten the development and manufacturing times and reduce costs. Therefore, it is important to utilize general-purpose technologies that are highly functional, high-performance, and have a proven track record of mass production.Furthermore, in optical communication satellite constellations—which consist of tens to thousands of satellites and function as high-speed, dynamically moving mesh networks—high computational power is required for routing processes that enable low-latency, high-capacity communications in orbit. Consequently, high-performance applications are needed that differ from routing designs based on terrestrial network environments.Against this backdrop, NEC will conduct demonstrations of the underlying technologies needed to solve these challenges.Overview of the Technology Demonstration SatelliteThe technology demonstration satellite will conduct the following demonstrations in orbit. Practical Application of "MAG Machining" to Reduce Costs and Environmental Impact Aimed at Skin Panel Manufacturing for Aircrafts[Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Commercial Aircraft Systems]Skin (Bottom) and Frame (Top) Processed by MAG MachiningMHI has put their "MAG (Mitsubishi Advanced Green) Machining Method" into practical use for high-precision machining of large core aircraft structural panels (frames and skins). Conventional chemical milling, which uses large quantities of chemicals to melt aluminum, was previously required for precision machining aluminum alloy panels up to 9 meters long with tolerances in the 10-micron range, meaning that reducing chemical usage to lower costs and environmental impact was a pressing challenge. Therefore, MHI developed MAG machining that combines cutting tool capable of handling complex shapes, technology that controls machining volume while measuring plate thickness using ultrasonic waves, and technology that automatically rectifies machining paths. MHI first adopted this for skin processing in FY2017. Then, by FY2025, the Company achieved the world's first machining of frames and completed the adoption of MAG machining for all parts previously processed by chemical milling. Compared to before, costs were reduced by approximately 30% and this fundamental machining method for aircraft manufacturing - established globally only by MHI - has been highly praised by The Boeing Company in the U.S. Autonomous Mobile Collaborative Robot Platform "FCR-PF"Automation and Reduced Processing Times in Manufacturing[Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Research Institute]Flexible Collaborative Robot Platform: FCR-PFMHI Group has developed and implemented an autonomous mobile robot system (FCR-PF: Flexible Collaborative Robot Platform) to enhance throughput, reduce lead times, and minimize manpower at its manufacturing sites. This collaborative robot system, which can work together with workers in existing production areas, is software-driven and can easily increase the number of tasks it can handle by installing applications and changing the hand at the tip. It is also characterized as a "multi-skilled worker " that can perform not only one task but various other tasks. In addition, it can perform difficult tasks by cooperating with multiple robots, and it is also possible to combine individually introduced robots according to the situation. The development was completed with specifications that can be operated even in harsh field environments, and the system has already started to be operated in the manufacturing sites of the group. It has contributed to freeing workers from dangerous work and simple repetitive work, shifting to high-value-added work, and robotization/mechanization of skilled skills. In the future, the autonomous mobile multi-skilled worker collaborative robot system, which can improve the capacity utilization rate and investment effect, is expected to expand automation to improve throughput and shorten lead time. MHI Has Developed Ultrasonic Testing that Significantly Reduces Inspection Lead Times[Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Research Institute]MHI has developed two UT (Ultrasonic Testing) technologies that enable inspections otherwise impossible with conventional methods. The "Adaptive UT" technology estimates the surface profile and corrects wave reflection and refraction, enabling direct inspection of internal defects without modifying complex surfaces. This technology has been implemented in boilers, reducing inspection lead times by 70% during periodic boiler inspections. In steam turbines, commercial aircraft, special vehicles, and other applications, it has enabled the inspection and quality verification of areas that were previously difficult to assess, resulting in greater design flexibility and improved reliability. The "Internal Thread UT" quantitatively measures thread height to determine damage, enabling integrity assessment of threaded sections without removing any bolts. Compared to conventional inspections that required bolts to be removed, this approach significantly reduces inspection lead times by 80% for steam turbines. These UT technologies, which defy industry norms, greatly contribute to the Company's after-sales service operations and design innovations by expanding design flexibility while ensuring quality, and are also expected to help shorten manufacturing lead times through their application as in-process inspections on production lines. Maintenance Activities for Factory Infrastructure Equipment Utilizing Digital Technology in Factories[Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Value Chain Headquarters]Advanced Factory Management Using Infrastructure Data AnalysisThis refers to activities to advance equipment maintenance, which tasks that tend to depend on experience and skills, by leveraging digital technology. In practice, this involves utilizing digital technologies such as IoT sensors that can be easily retrofitted to equipment and data cleansing to extract key features (numerical representations of data characteristics) from large datasets, thereby streamlining and enhancing the efficiency of infrastructure maintenance operations within MHI factories. The focus was on Hiroshima Machinery Works Kan-on Plant, which has approximately 22,000 terminal electrical systems while IoT sensors have been installed in the transformer rooms at the very top of the electrical system, establishing a mechanism to monitor the entire plant. Previously, manual inspections and meter readings were conducted at all 22,000 terminal equipment points, but now, automatic evaluation can be performed using data from just 350 substations, aiming to reduce the inspection workload by approximately 60%. This reduces the risk of leakage and curtails power outage inspection times for individual equipment inspections, which helps to prevent factory downtime. This is something that can also be deployed at other factories. MHI Rolls Out Company-Wide XR PlatformAccelerating DX in Design and Production Processes[Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Digital Innovation Division]Improved Layout Marking Efficiency by Overlaying Blocking PlansMHI has promoted the company-wide deployment of XR(Note) technologies that enable the digital transformation of design and production processes by displaying digital data such as CAD in virtual spaces or on actual products, thereby preventing design rework and streamlining assembly and inspection operations. By standardizing and platformizing XR environment setup and operational procedures, the Company established a system enabling anyone to easily build and operate XR environments. As of the end of December 2025, adoption and pilot implementation have progressed accordingly across 12 departments. In aerospace systems, utilizing XR technology during the initial design phase assisted with identifying issues in product assembly and machining early on, helping to prevent rework. For commercial aircrafts and submarines, overlaying part installation positions onto the actual products has halved the time required for marking and layout work. Further company-wide implementation is expected to enhance profitability across the entire Group.(Note) XR (Cross Reality) is an umbrella term covering VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), MR (Mixed Reality), and other related technologies.About MHI GroupMitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group is one of the world’s leading industrial groups, spanning energy, smart infrastructure, industrial machinery, aerospace and defense. Successful Flight Demonstration of Mission Autonomy Developed for Use in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

・Entire process completed in just 8 weeks, including AI development, UAV installation, and flight・Strengthened collaboration with Shield AI to accelerate mission autonomy developed in JapanTOKYO, Mar 17, 2026 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has successfully conducted flight demonstrations of AI-powered mission autonomy developed for use in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by leveraging an AI development environment through Hivemind Enterprise provided by US company Shield AI Inc. (hereinafter SAI Inc.). The entire process, from AI development to UAV installation and flight, was completed in just eight weeks. In previous development efforts, MHI built and maintained an environment that leveraged multiple open-source products to perform in-house coding, AI training, simulation evaluation, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing(Note), which required significant effort. In contrast, by leveraging Hivemind Enterprise for this project, greater focus could be placed on developing mission autonomy.Mission autonomy development for this flight demonstration began in September 2025. Flight demonstrations were conducted on November 7 at the test field in Inashiki District, Ibaraki Prefecture, and on December 18 at the test field in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture. Specifically, the AI was completed following prior AI training, simulation evaluation, and HIL testing, then installed in the ARMD (Affordable Rapid-prototyping Mitsubishi-Drone initiative) UAV, which flew through the skies, completing successful flight demonstrations.Mission autonomy is a critical technology shaping Japan's UAV operations, and MHI considers domestic production essential. Building on the rapid development of this Japan-made mission autonomy system, MHI and SAI will strengthen collaboration and further accelerate mission autonomy development.Leveraging the latest AI technology to address various challenges through UAV, MHI strives to help realize a safe, secure, and comfortable society.(Note) A method for verifying the operation of hardware before installationARMD SpecificationsDimensions: Overall length 2.5 m, main wingspan 2.5 mTakeoff weight: 20 kgPower source: Engine (a) ARMD-01(Unit 1) (b) ARMD-02(Unit 2)About MHI GroupMitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group is one of the world’s leading industrial groups, spanning energy, smart infrastructure, industrial machinery, aerospace and defense.
